A new Start in Rothschild Avenue
A Novel
»Hope never dies with children«, says Betsy Sternberg when she moves back into her old apartment in Rothschild Avenue. The damage from the bombing has been repaired, the cherry tree in the backyard is still there, the birds call happily, but for the survivors of the Sternberg family, there is no returning to their old lives. Future, home, security – these words have no meaning for them. Then, in this atmosphere of insecurity, a miracle happens, something nobody expected: Erwin, Clara and Claudette, who escaped Nazism, suddenly stand in the hallway … and with them an astounding surprise. Evocative and touching.
Stefanie Zweig was born in Leobschütz in Upper Silesia in 1932. In 1938, the Nazi persecution forced her Jewish family to flee. She emigrated to Kenya and returned to Germany in 1947. In 1952, her family moved into the house in Rothschild Avenue in Frankfurt. Stefanie Zweig’s novels have been on the bestseller lists for many weeks. She passed away on 25th April, 2014.
