Rosa takes a Break
A funny, imaginative and poignant woman’s novel about self-discovery
Rosa is standing in the Mediterranean, waiting for the flood to take her away at last.
But no flood is in sight … Throughout her life, Rosa has never taken any chances. She has remained stuck in her hometown waiting for Marco, who she has loved since childhood, to finally pay attention to her. Finally, she comes to her senses after listening to her friend Elfie, and starts to look elsewhere. When she meets handsome Maurizio, she quietly allows herself to believe in true love again, and follows him to Italy. In a humorous and poignant style all her own, Karin Michalke tells the story of how Rosa, stranded in an Italian village, eventually succeeds in finding happiness and realises the only way to find freedom is through herself.
Karin Michalke, born in 1976, wrote the screenplays for the film trilogy Beste Gegend, Beste Zeit and Beste Chance (Best Neighbourhood, Best Time, Best Chance) and was also the writer of the Bavarian Western Räuber Kneißl (Kneissl the Thief, 2008, directed by Markus H. Rosenmüller). During the summer months,
Michalke escapes to the Bavarian Alps and lives the rural life of a dairymaid.
