Sisters of the Revolution
WE WON‘T OBEY!
Women have always stood fearless in the first row during revolutions throughout history, but only now new media have made them visible. As »the girl with the blue bra« in Egypt or »the woman in the red dress« who was shot with water cannons in Turkey, their pictures went around the world – and have forever changed our view on women, especially those in the Arabic countries. But who are these fearless women from completely different cultures, who have all individually made the courageous decision to revolt against dictatorship and injustice even though they have to pay a high price for it? In impressive portraits, these »sisters of the revolution« take stock.
As a political scientist and journalist, Arabelle Bernecker met women from Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, who have inspired her to write this book. Susanne Glass has a PhD in political science and started to work as a war correspondent at the age of 29. Her reportages have won numerous awards. Bernd Kolb is a renowned visionary and global thought leader. With his work as a photographer, he shows the person »behind the mask« in extraordinary portraits.
